A Mother's Day Staycation at the Hotel Valley Ho

Photo: Hotel Valley Ho

Hi friends and happy summer! How are you? I can't believe how fast spring 2019 went by.

In between spring birthdays, graduations and work, the season quickly passed us by, and its only now that I am finding the time to write about my Mother's Day staycation at the Hotel Valley Ho resort in Scottsdale.

Over Mother's Day weekend, my husband spoiled me with a staycation at the historic Hotel Valley Ho: a chic, retro resort first opened in 1956 in downtown Scottsdale that once accommodated Hollywood stars like Cary Grant, Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner.

Though it suffered from disrepair for some time, within the last decade, the resort went through an extensive $80 million renovation to restore it to its former glory and was also placed on the Scottsdale Historic Register.

Today, it is truly a sight to behold, with features like floor-to-ceiling glass, mod decor, multiple pools, a restaurant and a spa. When we checked into our room, Ryan and I both agreed that it felt like we were stepping into a scene from our favorite show, "Mad Men."

We had an incredible stay at the Hotel Valley Ho, taking full advantage of the OHasis Pool right outside our room and the ZuZu Restaurant where we dined on classics like milkshakes and patty melts.

We also had a great time admiring the architecture, wandering the beautiful grounds and getting some energy out with Rosie before her naptime.

We wished we could have stayed at the resort longer but we'll just have to do with making a trip back soon! You can learn more about reserving a stay at the Hotel Valley Ho here.

Our DIY Playhouse Makeover

Hi friends! I am so excited to share something that I've been working on over the last month with you today: our DIY playhouse makeover.

It all started with nostalgia over Roselyn turning two and me thinking back to my own childhood. My parents bought me a plastic playhouse to play pretend in when I was a toddler and I absolutely loved it! I wanted to give Rosie the same experience for her second birthday, but I also wanted it to be a playhouse that she could really grow with.

So, as every mom does after they put their little ones down for bed, I turned on Fixer Upper and browsed through Pinterest for DIY playhouse makeover ideas on Rosie's birthday weekend. The very next day, I saw a used Little Tikes Cape Cottage Playhouse on Facebook Marketplace that was on sale nearby for next to nothing and I knew it was meant to be!

We're definitely not Chip and Joanna Gaines but with some elbow grease and Rust-Oleum spray paint, we transformed the used playhouse into a minimalist and modern playhouse that Rosie loves!

We first soaked and then stripped the existing decals off of the house with Goo-Gone, which was the longest and most strenuous part of the playhouse makeover (some of the stickers had melted into the plastic after sitting in the hot Phoenix sun for a few years).

We then used a total of six cans of Rust-Oleum's "Paint and Primer in One" spray paint: four cans in "Amber" for the doors and roof of the playhouse and two cans in "Pure Gold" for the children's stool and flag pole holders. We found that it was more efficient to take the playhouse apart to paint pieces individually, rather than keep it intact.

We then put the playhouse back together and used durable kitchen stick and peel wallpaper from Target to create gingham shades for the windows of the playhouse. That's it!

We had so much fun working on this project together and Rosie is loving playing in her new playhouse – her favorite activities are sweeping inside her house and watering her plants before she sits inside and plays with her puppies.

Rosie's Second Birthday | Puppy Paw-ty

This is two! We still can't believe that we are parents to a 2-year-old now or how fast this second year with Roselyn went by...

We had the opportunity to celebrate Rosie with an intimate "puppy paw-ty" last week in honor of her love for our dog Olive – and really, any puppy that she comes across.

We had the greatest time seeing Rosie play with her aunts and uncles, cousin and grandparents and loved watching the excitement and joy she received upon seeing everyone dress up with puppy ears.

We want to thank all of our family who came over for our small but sweet celebration – especially Rosie's grandparents for pitching in with decor and refreshments!

Why We Love Pampers Swaddlers With Heart Quilts™

As Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, we have had l-o-v-e on our minds and want to take the opportunity to tell you how much we love our Pampers Swaddlers with Heart Quilts™ diapers.

Pampers are not only the #1 choice of hospitals, nurses and parents, but they are our family's number one choice as well!

From the time that Roselyn was born at 4 lbs. and 14 oz., she was put in a Pampers Swaddlers preemie diaper and it was truly love at first sight. We love Pampers because their diapers aren't just absorbent, but are comfortable and soft, above all.

Their latest line, Pampers Swaddlers with Heart Quilts™, offer the most comfort and premium protection that I've seen yet. The diapers, which are now lined with Heart Quilts™, are softer than ever against Rosie's skin while still pulling the mess and wetness away from her.

Since she is in a diaper nearly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, having soft comfort and strong protection is so important, which is why we love the new Pampers Swaddlers with Heart Quilts™ line.

As parents, we only want what's best for our children, and there is nothing quite like seeing Rosie settle down on the changing table and smile during a diaper change, because she knows she is surrounded by comfort and love. Since Pampers Swaddlers with Heart Quilts™ has come into our lives, we have all been comforted and encouraged by its absorbency, comfort, fit and value.

Thank you to Pampers, who sent me Pampers Swaddlers with Heart Quilts™ to try for free!

Burm Family Christmas Card and Year in Review: 2018

Happy New Year, family and friends!

Now that it's almost February, it seemed like the right time to finally hit "publish" on our Christmas card and year in review – better late than never, right?

Because time is so fleeting, I prioritized being in the moment instead of capturing every moment with Roselyn this year.

Here are a few highlights from 2018 that we'd like to remember and a few things we're looking forward to in 2019:

In 2019, we're most looking forward to slowing down, spending family time together and watching Roselyn grow this year.

This past year was absolutely amazing, but it was also a difficult one for us, as full-time working parents. We are so very grateful for what we have and where we're headed, but we sacrificed a lot of family time together and missed more of Rosie's "firsts" than we'd like, due to conflicting work schedules and Ryan not having many holidays or weekends off.

We are now approaching the next decade of our lives, and as we age, we're realizing how important each day, month and year that we have together truly is.

We just want to say thank you for being here with us and that we're wishing you a great year ahead!

Fall in the Sonoran Desert | Family Photos

Hi friends! How are you? I hope you've had a great summer!

We've taken some time away from the blog recently to focus on family time as I transitioned into a new role/promotion at work and Roselyn transitioned into the toddler stage this summer season.

Rosie quickly figured out how fun it is to climb, run and play away from her parents this summer, so we have honestly just been trying to keep up!

We have enjoyed watching Rosie grow into a toddler and we have had so many great experiences and moments together this season, thanks to her growing curiosity and interest in the people and world around her.

We have absolutely loved getting to see the world through Rosie's eyes and thought we would take advantage of this season we're in by taking Rosie back to our favorite place in Phoenix: The Desert Botanical Garden (DBG).

Though fall in the Sonoran Desert is different from your traditional fall experience, we love being able to hike through over 140 acres of cacti and plants at the DBG and enjoy the striking sunsets and the temperate desert.

Thank you to our friend Valerie, of Valerie Bolitho Photography, for shooting our family at the DBG again and for working through Rosie's temperamental toddler feelings with us throughout the session!
